Solidarity Stories: Community Led Book Discussion takes place on the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the upstairs lounge area of miXt Food Hall in Brentwood, MD. "When Patsy receives a tourist visa, she seizes the opportunity to leave Jamaica for good and follow her oldest friend to New York in search of love and the American dream. However, to put herself first, she leaves her young child, Tru, behind in Kingston with her father. Alternating between two perspectives, the story highlights Patsy’s difficulty finding work and adjustment to life in the United States as an undocumented immigrant and Tru’s struggle to understand why Patsy left her behind. Kirkus Reviews calls the novel “a profound book about sexuality, gender, race, and immigration that speaks to the contemporary moment through the figure of a woman alive with passion and regret."
