Press Release FF Arrested

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 21, 2025
In August 2024, the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department was notified by the Office of Law of a formal complaint regarding a historical sexual assault allegation. The alleged incidents occurred between 1991-1996 at the Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Station and involved a former member of the department.
The complaint identified retired firefighter, John Inman, as the alleged perpetrator in the repeated sexual abuse of a junior firefighter during that period. Following notification, the Prince George’s County Police Department launched an immediate investigation. A warrant for Inman’s arrest was issued and on May 12, 2025, and he voluntarily turned himself in on May 17, 2025. The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department had no prior knowledge of the complaints associated with this case and has fully cooperated with the investigation.
The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department is also strengthening its safeguards for youth members by implementing a new policy; Junior Volunteer Firefighters and High School Cadets, General Order 11-31. Developed in collaboration with the Office of Law, the Prince George’s County Public Schools, and internal stakeholders, this policy replaces older procedures and is grounded in best-practices. It outlines clear guidelines to ensure a safe, structured, and accountable environment for all youth participants in our programs.
“We are committed to maintaining the highest standard of safety and accountability, especially for the young members who dedicate themselves to public service at an early age” said Fire Chief Tiffany Green. “We take every allegation seriously and will continue to do everything in our power to prevent harm and support those affected”.
If you have any information or have experienced harm, we encourage you to reach out to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
