Pet Adoption

The Animal Services Facility & Adoption Center is at full capacity! Here's how you can help:

We invite you to visit the animals at our state-of-the-art Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center (ASFAC)

Adoption

We are at full capacity! We urgently need your help finding loving homes for our dogs, especially our large and senior dogs. Without your help, we may have to find alternative solutions for our healthy, adoptable dogs due to a lack of space.

Our website features lost animals and animals available for adoption. If you want additional information about any animals available at our facility, please contact us at 301-780-7200.

Adoption Fees

The ASFAC is introducing adoption fees based on a dog's weight to help ensure our animals are placed in loving, responsible, and committed homes.  This chart represents ASFAC's regular adoption fees. Special adoption promotions may also be offered.

Dog Weight Adoption Fee
0-20 lbs $230
21-40 lbs $184
41-60 lbs $138
61-80 lbs $92
81+ lbs $0

Fees are subject to change. Please contact the shelter for current pricing.

All adopted pets receive age-appropriate vaccinations and a microchip before leaving the facility. The microchip contains a personal, one-of-a-kind identification number that helps us identify your pet in case it gets lost.

Accepted Payment Methods

Citizens and residents adopting a pet from the Animal Services Facility and Adoption Center may pay for adoption fees by cash or credit card only.

Medical Treatment

Getting the animals out of the facility and into homes is critical to getting them in the best position to succeed in the long term. Releasing treated animals after the appropriate period does not pose a health threat to the community.

To help reduce the spread of the disease in the community, ASFAC encourages pet owners to keep their pets updated on vaccines, avoid communal water bowls, and seek medical advice from a veterinarian if any symptoms like a cough or runny nose develop or worsen.

Kittens

The ASFAC has a large group of kitten-bottle babies that will be legally adoptable once they are eight weeks old. They need fosters to take them in for two to four weeks. Most of the infant kittens can eat solid food. Interested fosters can contact fosterpgcpets@co.pg.md.us for more information.

Preparing for Pet Adoption

Watch this video to start preparing your family and home for bringing another member home:

Steps for the Adoption Process

  1. Visit 24petconnect.com/PGEOADOPT to view animals available for adoption from the facility.
  2. Call 301-780-7200, option 2, with the animal ID number(s) to check availability.
  3. Complete the Adoption Application for Dogs & Cats or Adoption Application for Exotic Animals, print and bring the application with you to the facility. Please DO NOT FAX OR EMAIL applications.

We conduct all adoptions on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-ins are welcome during our normal business hours.

Only one application is accepted per animal. In many cases, our pets can go home the same day they are adopted, so please come prepared with a leash and collar if you are adopting a dog, or with a pet-safe
carrier if you are adopting a cat, rabbit, or another small animal.
