Empowering Our Youth
Prince George’s County is committed to a holistic approach, preparing and empowering our County’s youth to achieve their full potential into adulthood. In collaboration with local businesses, non-profits, community organizations, and athletic and academic programs, we provide our young adults with well-rounded opportunities for growth. Check out some programs available through the County to help keep youth engaged.

Leadership Programs
Alsobrooks Youth Leadership Institute
The Alsobrooks Youth Leadership Institute (AYLI) is a 20-member body of Prince George’s Proud youth from throughout the County. AYLI is a diverse group of youth (ages 14-17, grades 9-11) from different backgrounds - ethnic, economic, and social who are serious about the lives of youth in our County and interested in County government.
Prince George’s County Police Explorers Program
The Prince George's County Police Department Law Enforcement Exploring Program is an exciting work-based training program for young men and women who are interested in careers in law enforcement and public safety. The Prince George’s County Police Department, along with the Learning For Life Foundation and the Boy Scouts of America, have come together to provide a youth program designed to promote citizenship, build character, and develop physical and mental fitness.
Sports Programs
Prince George’s County Police Athletic League
The Prince George's County Police Athletic League is a juvenile crime prevention program that uses mentoring, educational, athletic, and recreational activities to create trust and understanding between law enforcement and youth. This program promotes a healthy environment for the youth of Prince George's County under the supervision of law enforcement professionals.
Parks and Recreation
Parks and Recreation Youth Programs
Pre-teen and Teen programs push the boundaries of traditional recreation. These programs strive to reduce idleness among teenagers and pre-teens and prepare them for the future. These programs aim to increase the readiness of young people through high-quality, and community-supported events, programs, and services.
Summer Programs
Alsobrooks Summer Passport Experience
Summer Passport is a nationally recognized award-winning program by the National Association of Counties. Teenagers ages 12-15 across Prince George’s County pursue new interests, make new friends, and learn from local experts. Activities allow students to explore subjects they love and learn from local experts in various fields right here in the crown jewel of Maryland – Prince George’s County.
Summer Youth Employment Program
The Summer Youth Enrichment Program (SYEP) is an award-winning program through the County’s Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) that provides job readiness training, career workshops, and entry-level summer employment opportunities to young people ages 14 to 22. In 2019, County Executive Alsobrooks doubled the size of the program from 3000 participants to 6000 participants and expanded the age range to include more youth.
