Veterans Affairs
The Prince George’s County Office of Veterans Affairs (OVA) is dedicated to honoring, supporting, and empowering the veteran community in our County. As a trusted resource, OVA connects veterans, active-duty service members, and their families to essential services. The office advocates for their needs and celebrates their contributions to our society.
I believe we’re obligated to do more than just say ‘thank you’ to our veterans. We have a duty to show our appreciation with actions to back up our words.
- County Executive Angela D. Alsobrooks
Mission
To improve the quality of life for veterans and their families in Prince George's County by providing access to critical resources, fostering community engagement, and advocating for the unique needs of our veteran population.
Vision
We envision a community where every veteran has the support they need to thrive, where their service is honored, and their well-being is prioritized. Through collaboration, outreach, and advocacy, we aim to create a lasting, positive impact in the lives of veterans and their families.
Services
We serve eligible veterans, their dependents, surviving spouses, children of deceased veterans, members of the Reserves or National Guard, and active-duty service members who reside in the County. Learn how we can serve you.
Community Outreach
Our primary goal is to improve the lives of veterans and their families by hosting events and fostering a strong support network in Prince George’s County. Through our outreach programs, we aim to address the unique needs of veterans and empower them to thrive in civilian life. Our events include resource fairs, job readiness workshops, and community-building activities that honor veterans' service.
Surviving Spouse Program
We are happy to include surviving spouses in our day-to-day mission. We realize many have lost loved ones due to war, Agent Orange, and other causes. We encourage Surviving Spouses to call our VA office for assistance at any time.
Warm Hearts Calls
"Warm hearts calls" refer to phone calls in which an OVA representative actively connects a veteran with the most suitable support person or service. Instead of merely transferring the call to a generic line, the representative takes the time to understand the veteran's specific needs. They then personally hand off the call to the individual best equipped to address those needs, ensuring a smooth transition and immediate assistance.
Our Team
Our team is comprised of experienced professionals, many of whom are veterans themselves. Together, we work to ensure veterans have access to healthcare, housing, employment opportunities, and educational resources, as well as access to our partners and fellow veterans’ organizations.
