Nabeel Waseem Has Been Selected as DPIE's New Associate Director

Nabeel Waseem has over 19 years of experience in the building construction industry. He started working at DPIE in November 2021 and served as the Division Chief/Deputy Building Code Official at the Building Plan Review Division (BPRD), overseeing plan review for building/structural, electrical, health, fire/life safety, and mechanical. Nabeel was also recently designated as the County’s Fire Code Official, a joint delegation by DPIE and Fire/EMS.

Education:  Nabeel holds a B.Sc. in Fire Safety Engineering, M.Eng. in Fire Protection Engineering, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He has a Graduate Certificate in Public Budgeting and Financial Management from Pennsylvania State University and, last year, earned an Executive Certificate from Harvard University Kennedy School in Strategic Management of Regulatory and Enforcement Agencies.

Professional Achievements:  Nabeel is a licensed Fire Protection Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Maryland, D.C., and Virginia and is intimate with the process of managing complex projects/ programs, producing deliverables on schedule, and managing expenditures and human resources to meet the needs of stakeholders and the agency. He holds both the Project Management Professional (PMP) and LEED AP BD + C (sustainable design) credentials and has experience in public procurement and contracts.

Highlighted Work:  Subtitle 4 and 9 code cycle changes, revisions to the building permit fee schedule, enhancement to division website to simplify information and processes for both internal and external users, managed on-call building plan review contracts, served as subject matter expert for Climate Action Plan and Accessible Dwelling Units (ADU).
