School is out and Prince George’s County is opening doors of opportunity for youth and teens to stay active, inspired, and safe all season long.

In partnership with the Maryland-National Capital Park Police, the Safe Summer Initiative is in full swing. Chief Germaine Haywood emphasizes the department’s commitment to community safety, with officers present at every community center serving as mentors and positive role models. These officers don’t just patrol—they participate, engaging directly with youth in sports, games, and enrichment activities.

Stephan Makle, a leader in the Department’s Positive Youth Development initiatives, underscores the power of summer programming in supporting young people.

The Safe Summer Initiative expands recreational opportunities and extends operating hours at select community centers for residents ages 12 to 24, ensuring that safe, engaging spaces are accessible throughout the County.
