African Diaspora Advisory Board

Prince George's County African Diaspora Advisory Board

History and Mission

The African Diaspora Advisory Board (ADAB) was established in 2019 by County Executive Angela Alsobrooks to ensure that she is well-informed about the interests, needs, and concerns of African immigrant residents, businesses, and those employed in Prince George’s County. Members of the Advisory Board serve as subject matter experts to provide the Office of the County Executive with the concerns, interests, candid feedback, and recommendations to enhance the county government service delivery to the African diaspora community. The Board also advocates for the community at large for Business and Economic Development, Culture and Foreign Affairs, Education, Health and Human Services, Churches/Faith-based Communities, and Youth Development.

Since its inception, ADAB has been proud to celebrate many accomplishments. These include:

  1. A town hall meeting with African Ambassadors to the USA to dialog with the African Diaspora community in the county.
  2. A business roundtable with County Executive Angela Alsobrooks together with the executive leadership team and African-owned businesses in the county.
  3. Conducting a culturally appealing food drive for the African diaspora community to address the food crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  4. Establishing the African Diaspora COVID-19 Vaccination Workgroup to assist the County government in enhancing its COVID-19 vaccination distribution plan in the African diaspora community.
  5. The proclamation of September as African Heritage Month in Prince George’s County.
  6. Hosting the First ever International Women’s Day in the African Community in Prince George’s County.
