Duane Prophet Appointed Acting Director of Prince George's County's Office of Information Technology

LARGO, MD – Prince George’s County Acting County Executive Tara Jackson has announced the appointment of Duane Prophet as the Acting Director of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), following the resignation of Wanda Gibson. 

Prophet, a seasoned information technology leader, has been an integral part of the County’s IT operations for more than five years, serving as Director of Digital Government and Applications and Web Division Chief. With over 25 years of experience in information technology, he has held key roles including System Administrator, Programmer, Systems Analyst, Web Manager, and Data Relationship and Customer Experience Officer. 

“Duane Prophet’s extensive experience and strategic leadership in technology make him the ideal choice to guide the Office of Information Technology during this transition. His expertise in digital government and IT infrastructure will be invaluable as we continue modernizing our County’s technological capabilities.”

Prophet played a key role in the development of Prince George’s County’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy, which helped position the County as a national leader and subject matter expert on the responsible use of AI in government operations. His work in this space has set a standard for leveraging AI to improve efficiency, enhance public services, and ensure transparency in emerging technologies.

A Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Information Technology Infrastructure Library Professional (ITIL), and Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB), Prophet brings a wealth of expertise in system modernization, data analytics, and customer experience to his new role.  

“I am honored to step into this role and continue advancing the County’s digital transformation efforts,” said Acting Director Duane Prophet. “Technology is evolving rapidly, and I look forward to ensuring that our IT infrastructure, digital services, and AI-driven innovations keep Prince George’s County at the forefront of government technology.” 

As Acting Director, Prophet will lead the County’s strategic technology initiatives, overseeing critical infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital government services to support the County’s operations and future growth.
