Women's History Month
Acting County Executive Tara Jackson issued a Proclamation recognizing March as Women's History Month and March 8 as International Women's Day in Prince George's County.
The following is a statement from Acting County Executive Tara Jackson in recognition of Women's History Month.
Dear Prince Georgians:
During the month of March, we proudly join the nation in celebrating Women's History Month, a time to honor the extraordinary achievements of women and acknowledge the profound contributions they have made in our County, our nation, and the world. Since 1987, Women's History Month has served as a reminder of resilience, innovation, and leadership of women throughout history.
This year, the National Women's History Alliance (NWHA) chose the theme: "Moving Forward Together." This theme highlights the importance of unity, collaboration, and collective progress in the fight for gender equality and social justice. It recognizes that, by working together, we can build a future where all women have the opportunity to thrive, lead, and create lasting change in our communities.
Each year, this month gives us a special opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contributions of women who have shaped our history, enriched our society, and continue to inspire future generations. Prince George’s County is home to so many amazing women who work and serve in various capacities, and we are excited to celebrate them for making a positive impact on our lives.
Throughout March, Prince Georges County will host a variety of events, programs, and activities to honor both the phenomenal women of the past and the powerful changemakers of today. One such event is the African Diaspora International Women's Day 2025 celebration this past Saturday, March 15, at Metro Point Hotel. I joined Senator Angela Alsobrooks and members of our community as we recognized the role of immigrant women in community building from an African perspective. View the photo album from the event.
Let's continue to use this month to uplift, support, and celebrate the women in our lives who are making a difference every day. Together, we can move forward as a stronger, more inclusive community.
Yours in service,
Tara H. Jackson
Acting Prince George’s County Executive
