Summer Trash, Recycling, Compost, and Yard Trim Collection Schedule

To beat the heat, residents are asked to place their trash and recycling carts at the curb by 5 a.m. on their regular collection day starting July 15 through September 30, 2024. This time adjustment is for workers' safety to avoid waste collection during the hottest times of the day.

Residents should note that services may be delayed throughout the day while workers navigate the high temperatures. All PGC311-reported missed collections will be resolved as soon as possible.

REMINDER: Starting October 1, the waste collection pickup schedule for compost/yard trim, bulky, regular trash and recycling will resume at 6 a.m. Residents should have their items at the curb by that time to ensure collection.

Curbside Bulky Trash

Residents receiving County-provided services can place up to four (4) standard bulky items directly NEXT to the trash cart/can for collection. For more information, visit our Clear the Curb page

PGC Composts

Prince George's County has expanded its free Curbside Composting program, PGC Composts! All residents receiving County-provided trash and recycling services can participate in this program to help protect the environment and keep valuable materials out of our landfills.

Residents with County-provided organic collections are advised to line their green-wheeled carts with absorbent material such as yard trim, leaves, paper towels, paper napkins, newspaper, or pizza boxes to help soak up odor and moisture. FAQs and more tips on preparing yard trim and food scraps can be found at mypgc.us/compost.

Waste Collection Carts

The County will issue one (1) recycling wheeled cart, one (1) trash wheeled cart, and one (1) organics wheeled cart to household residences that receive county-contracted collection services. Learn more about County-issued carts here

What do I do with my old curbside trash can?

This section does NOT apply to County-issued containers.

  • Repurpose your old non-county-issued trash can by using it as an extra trash container, labeled with the word "trash; a recycling container, labeled with "recycle" or a large "X"; or a yard trim container, labeled with "yard trim/compost."
  • To dispose of your old personally owned container(s), set the container upside down on your trash collection day with a note clearly and legibly stating, “TAKE WITH TRASH.” The trash hauler will collect the old container(s) and dispose of them as trash.
