South of Airport Noise Mitigation Study
Aircraft noise has become a significant concern for residents near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). The steady increase in annual operations has led to more substantial noise impacts in communities surrounding DCA. While DCA is an essential transportation asset for the region, the noise from flights into and out of DCA significantly affects the quality of life for residents, especially those living along the Potomac River in Prince George's County and surrounding jurisdictions.
In May 2023, Prince George's County partnered with Fairfax County and the City of Alexandria to embark on a comprehensive two-year airport noise study in collaboration with Vianair. This study will concentrate on the communities south of DCA and engage impacted neighborhoods through a community survey and public outreach meetings.
Survey
Feedback collected from the study will be evaluated to develop suggestions for mitigating airplane noise.
The survey is now CLOSED. Click the links below to learn of the survey results.
Meetings
As the survey results are received, residents will attend public meetings to learn more about the project and provide feedback on Vianair's recommendations.
Prince George’s County Public Virtual Meeting was held Monday, June 24, 2024, at 6 p.m.
Details about this study are available on the project website at www.vianair.com/soa.

Complaints
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) voluntarily launched an interactive Community Complaint Dashboard to facilitate access to noise complaint data.
